When will Smart Hours events occur and how often?

We will schedule no more than 15 Smart Hours events each season. Smart Hours events typically occur anytime between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the summer and between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. in the winter. No event will last longer than four hours. We will not hold events on holidays or weekends, except in case of an emergency.

A rapid, unexpected change in supply or demand for energy may cause us to schedule Smart Hours events on short notice. You will receive an alert, but your home may not be heated or cooled in advance. You can always choose to opt out of any Smart Hours event that impacts your plans or comfort. If you choose to opt out of more than three events during a qualified season, you won't receive the extra $25 bonus reward for participating in Smart Hours.
